The Clinton A. Leiper Collection includes materials relating to his high school education, time books, pay stubs, as well as Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and United Transportation Union records such as lodge meeting rolls, dues receipts, and minutes of Lodge meetings.

History / Biographical
linton Alexander Leiper was born on December 14, 1915 in Illinois and graduated from Sparta Township High School in 1934. For most of his working life, he was employed by the Southern Pacific Company as a conductor. Mr. Leiper was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen [BRT] Lodge No. 850 in Oakland, California from the 1940s until 1970, when the union merged with other transportation related unions to become the United Transportation Union [UTU]. In 1948, Mr. Leiper was elected president of Lodge No. 850, and in 1955 its local chairman. In 1958, he became the lodge secretary, a position he held until 1968. Upon retirement from Southern Pacific in the 1970s, he became a member of the UTU Retiree Program. Clinton A. Leiper passed away in 2000 in Sacramento, California.
