Scope and Content
Contains account books, detailed inventories and summary accounts of Carter buildings, furniture, tools and materials stored at Newark shops and statements of labor from 1899 to 1902. Includes bills and statements of accounts from 1900 to 1902 from various vendors including A.P. Ingraham, Big Basin Lumber Company, James Graham and Company, Harry Watkins, F.C. Jarvis, Pacific Land Improvement Company, Hanson Lumber Company and Southern Pacific Company. Contains drawings of woodwork and some metal parts for narrow gauge "combination" style boxcar used on the South Pacific Coast Railroad. Also includes a ledger and day book of a Mr. Christensen recording freight and passengers hauled on horse-drawn Centerville Branch of South Pacific Coast Railroad from 1885 to 1898.
History / Biographical
A.L. Sunderer was an architect and draftsman working in the areas of Newark and modern day Fremont at the turn of the century. Sunderer worked for a time as a draftsman for Carter Brothers, a pioneer car manufacturer on the Pacific Coast.
